Returning Sweat Smell

Everyone sweats. Both during the day and at night. Often our sweat is odorless, but in some cases, it has a really unpleasant smell. By washing the armpits every day, preferably without soap, and using a good deodorant, you can keep unpleasant odors to a minimum. However, you can sometimes suffer from a recurring sweat smell. Chances are the smell is in your clothes!sweat smell

The Smell Of Old Sweat

Just after washing, the clothes smell wonderfully clean and fresh. But when you wear that nice sweater or jacket for half an hour, an annoying sweat smell comes up! Chances are the washing machine didn’t kill all the bacteria in the garment.

When you start sweating again, you will smell the remaining bacteria. This gives a typical smell of ‘old sweat’. As mentioned, washing in the washing machine is often not enough to remove the sweat smell from the garment. But there are many other (home) resources to get this done!

Wash Differently?

The Washing Machine

Sometimes the problem is in the daily use of the washing machine. There are a number of things to take into account. For example, the washing machine should in principle be cleaned once a month by running a boiling cycle with an empty drum. This way you ensure that bacteria that cause unpleasant odors are killed.sweat smell

Too Much Fabric Softener

Fabric softener gives a wonderful scent to the laundry. But excessive use of fabric softener actually ensures that your washing machine does its job less well. So you can easily use fabric softener, but rather not too much!

Laundry Detergent

The use of detergent can also make a difference. When you put the detergent in a washing ball between the laundry, it does its job better than when you put it at the top of the compartment. It is also smart to occasionally use powder instead of always using liquid detergent.

Soak In Vinegar

Inject

Vinegar is a good way to remove the sweat smell from clothes. A good tip is to put vinegar in a plant sprayer and spray it into the armpits. Allow this to absorb overnight and then wash the garment in the washing machine. There’s no harm in putting it in with the other laundry.

Soak

You can also choose to soak the garment overnight in a bucket of water with a good splash of vinegar. For a full bucket, take about a third of a bottle of vinegar. Preferably soak the clothing overnight in a bucket of water, with a good splash of vinegar. Then it can be put in the washing machine on a normal program. The vinegar will neutralize the sweat smell.sweat smell

Vinegar As A Fabric Softener

You can also use vinegar instead of fabric softener. Add a splash of vinegar to the fabric softener compartment with every wash. This gives a wonderfully soft wash without annoying sweat odors. You also don’t have to worry about getting a vinegar smell in your clothes. This is not the case.

Soak In Baking Soda

Soda is also a very suitable means to remove sweat odors from your clothes. Put the clothes in a bucket of warm water with plenty of baking soda. Preferably let the clothing soak in this bucket overnight. Then you can simply wash it in the washing machine.
It is very important that you never use both baking soda and vinegar. These substances cancel out each other’s properties, so it is of no use.

Steam The Clothes

Steaming Into The Bathroom

Steam is an ideal means for removing bad odors. The heat kills the bacteria that cause the foul odor. You can hang an item of clothing on a hanger in the bathroom when you take a shower. You must of course keep the windows and doors closed. This causes the bathroom to fill with steam. Let the garment hang in the steam for as long as possible.

Steam Iron

Another way to steam the clothes is by using an iron. You can wash the garment as usual, and then iron over the armpits of the garment with iron while it is still slightly damp. Do this on the inside as well as the outside.

Rub With Dettol

Dettol is a drug known to kill bacteria. So this is also an excellent remedy against sweat bacteria. Lubricate or spray the armpits with Dettol and let it soak in well. You can leave it alone overnight. Then you can just put it in the washing machine and wash it on a normal program. The bacteria are killed and the bad sweat smell will disappear.

Blue Biotex

There are also people who swear by using blue Biotex. This is a hand wash detergent suitable for a prewash or soaks wash. Put the garment in a bucket of warm water with blue Biotex and let it soak for a few hours. You can rub the armpits a little extra with the Biotex. Then you can just put it in the washing machine and wash it with the rest.
