How Can I Plant A Hippeastrum (Amaryllis)?
A Hyppeastrum can be planned in different ways. For example:
planting a Hippeastrum in a pot,
a Hippeastrum on glass,
a Hippeastrum on a dish.
Hippeastrum In A Jar
A Hippeastrum or Amaryllis can easily be planted in a pot with potting soil. Make sure you have a large pot when planting this way. Especially a pot filled with nutrient-rich potting soil. Plant the bulb in the ground so that half of the bulb protrudes above the ground. In principle, the bulb does not need any water. Only start watering once the flower stem has reached a height of 10-15 cm.
Hippeastrum On Glass
When the bulb is placed on glass, you must first rinse the bulb well under the tap, until all the potting soil has been removed from between the roots. The bulb is then placed on a glass so that only the roots touch the water. The bulb must not get wet, so keep the water at least 5 cm below the bulb.
Hippeastrum On Scale
A modern way of planting the Hippeastrum is planting on a scale. The bulbs are then placed on a tray, where the roots must be covered with a layer of moss. However, the moss on the tray must be kept slightly moist. This way of planting is very popular because the bowl can be beautifully decorated with numerous materials. This method is also used when the Hippeastrum is used in a Christmas arrangement.
To Water
As long as the Hippeastrum has not yet bloomed, the plant needs little or no water. This of course depends on the planting method. Only when the stem is higher than 10 – 15 cm has the plant grown large enough to water Hippeastrum. From that moment on, the plant may have regular water, but care must be taken to keep the bulb “wet”. As soon as the bulb gets too wet, the bulb will rot. If the bulb accidentally gets too wet, it is advisable to repot the bulb.
